Blue Light Glasses and Your Evening Routine

By Heritage Gaze · Published 5 November 2026 · Educational guide, not personal medical advice.

The work is done. Your laptop is still open. One message turns into ten, and the evening slips away.

If you want a calmer end to a screen-heavy day, start with a routine you can keep. Amber blue light glasses can be one part of that routine. They are not a reason to ignore the room, the screen or the time you spend on it.

A simple starting point: set an end time for screen tasks, make the room less bright, lower an overly bright display and choose a quiet activity before bed. If you use amber lenses, remember that they change the view and do not guarantee better sleep.

1. Decide what still needs a screen

There is a difference between finishing a task and keeping a screen open out of habit. Before the evening starts, choose what you actually need to do.

For example, you might check tomorrow’s calendar, reply to one message and then close the laptop. That is a practical boundary you can see. “Spend less time online” is much harder to follow.

2. Look at the whole room

A phone is only one source of light. A ceiling light, a bright lamp or a television may also be in your view.

Walk through your usual evening setting. Can you use a softer light for a quiet task? Is a lamp shining straight towards you? Can you move it? Keep enough light to move around safely.

A useful routine should fit the place you live. It should not need a new device for every step.

3. Make the display comfortable to read

If the screen feels glaring against the room, adjust it. Look at the text size, reflections and the way you sit, as well as the display brightness.

A warm screen mode changes the display colours. An amber lens changes light before it enters your eyes. They are different tools, and neither is a promise that you will fall asleep more quickly.

If you need exact colours for work, finish that task before changing to a strong warm view.

4. Decide whether amber glasses suit the task

Our Dante and Ember blue light glasses have amber-tinted lenses. They filter some blue light and give the view a warmer tone.

Dante has a square frame. Ember has a round frame. Choose the shape you prefer, then check the gallery and lens details.

Glasses can filter light from the screen and the room. That makes them worth considering if you specifically want an amber-filtered view. It does not establish that the product treats insomnia or any other health condition.

We have not published a measured blocking percentage for these lenses. If that detail is important to your decision, ask us about the matching lens report before you buy.

5. Choose an activity that helps you end the day

A routine needs a next step. Put something simple in the place where the screen used to be: a book, your notes for tomorrow or another quiet activity you enjoy.

The NHS suggests a regular waking time, time to relax before bed and a dark, quiet bedroom. It also advises avoiding devices right before bed. Read its sleep and insomnia advice.

Try to keep your routine easy to repeat. The goal is a sensible end to the day, rather than a complicated list that becomes another job.

Why do researchers study evening light?

Light helps signal time to the body. In a controlled study of 12 adults, evening reading on a light-emitting eReader affected melatonin, body-clock timing and sleep compared with a printed book. The study tested a set exposure schedule. It did not test Heritage Gaze glasses. Read the original eReader study.

That explains why evening light is a useful topic to study. It does not prove that one pair of glasses will reverse those effects.

Trials of blue light filtering glasses have mixed sleep findings. A Cochrane review found the sleep evidence uncertain. You can read more in our guide to amber glasses and sleep research.

How can I tell whether my routine is useful?

Keep a short note of your screen finish time, the lighting you used and how the routine fitted your evening. If you change everything at once, you will not know which part you actually liked.

Do not use a personal sleep diary to diagnose a condition or assume that one good night proves a product works. It is simply a way to see whether your routine is practical.

When should I get help?

If sleep problems last for months, affect daily life or do not improve with habit changes, speak to a GP. Ongoing sleep problems deserve proper care, rather than a stronger shopping claim.
